This course is designed to prepare the student for careers in the management and care of small and specialty animals, with an emphasis given to clinical veterinarian practices and procedures, including general health and disease analysis, routine assessment procedures, and safety practices. Additional course content will include the anatomy and physiology of small animals, nutrition and digestion, pet ownership responsibilities, animal rights and welfare, and studies of breeds, characteristics, care, feeding, and other health care concerns as specifically related to dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, birds, fish, reptiles, and other such small animals.
