Course Description:
This course provides students with a foundation of understanding, knowledge, and skills to deal effectively with environmental problems. Students learn a variety of basic laboratory and field techniques including specimen sampling and processing, site monitoring, documentation, inspection, and emergency response. There will be significant incorporation and utilization of the latest types of technology for research and presentations. When possible, students will have the opportunity to work directly with, or consult over the Internet with various experts in various environmental fields. The course incorporates both academic and applied studies. The structure and function of natural ecosystems, the history of the environmental concerns is taught, with special emphasis on California and the San Joaquin Valley.
